Peter Kloeppel calls for unifying leadership in next German presidency

Former RTL news anchor Peter Kloeppel has shared his expectations for Germany's next head of state. Kloeppel, who moderated ‘RTL Aktuell’ from 1992 to 2024, stated that the next president should serve as an ethical compass to combat societal polarization and highlight commonalities among citizens.

He emphasized that the role requires a politically independent and highly visible leadership function that can address the concerns and hopes of the German people. Kloeppel also dismissed any possibility of himself running for the office.

The next German president, who will succeed Frank-Walter Steinmeier, is scheduled to be elected by the 18th Federal Convention on January 30, 2027.
