Peter Kloeppel honored with lifetime achievement award
Former RTL news anchor Peter Kloeppel has been honored with the lifetime achievement award (Ehrenpreis der Stifter) at the German Television Awards. Kloeppel, who served as the lead presenter for ‘RTL Aktuell’ for over 32 years and moderated more than 4,500 broadcasts, was praised by the jury for being a reliable and approachable figure in German journalism.
Following his retirement from news broadcasting in 2024, Kloeppel has transitioned to a lifestyle split between Germany and the United States. He spends approximately one-third of the year in Germany and two-thirds in Florida, where he resides with his wife, Carol. He described his current routine as active and relaxing, involving tennis, golf, running, and cooking.
Reflecting on his career, Kloeppel also touched upon his historical role as the first German TV journalist to report live on the September 11 terrorist attacks. He noted that while such significant events remain part of his life, they serve as a testament to the importance of his profession.
