Peter Kwemoi Ndorobo sets record at 40th Venicemarathon

Kenyan runner Peter Kwemoi Ndorobo set a new course record at the 40th Wizz Air Venicemarathon, finishing the 42.195 km race from Stra to Venice in 2h07’31”. This performance improved the previous record of 2h07’41” set by Uganda’s Solomon Mutai in 2023 by ten seconds. Ndorobo was followed by Ethiopia’s Yatede Tarto Berhanu in second place and Kenya’s Dikson Simba Nyakundi in third, with all three athletes finishing under 2h08’.

In the women’s marathon, Kenyan Jackline Jerono secured victory with a time of 2h26’16”, marking the third-fastest time in the event’s history. Jerono overcame a setback at the 40 km mark involving a dropped water bottle to overtake Ethiopia’s Alemaz Samuel Teshale, who finished second, and Worknesh Alemu Mola, who took third.

The 40th anniversary edition of the race saw a record participation of 24,000 runners across three distances. Other winners included Hicham Boufars in the men’s half marathon (1h05’34”) and Lucia Mitidieri in the women’s half marathon (1h20’24”).
