Peter Lassally, former late‑night TV producer, dies at 93

Peter Lassally, a Holocaust survivor born in Hamburg in 1932, died of natural causes on July 19 at age 93 in a Los Angeles memory‑care facility. A pivotal behind‑the‑scenes figure, he helped shape American late‑night television for half a century.

Lassally worked as an usher at Radio City Music Hall, a page at NBC and later became a trusted executive producer for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, The Late Show with David Letterman and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. He earned 13 Emmy nominations, winning two, and was often called the “host whisperer” for his mentorship of top hosts. His family described him as a survivor who rebuilt his life in the United States, influencing generations of comedians and viewers.
