Peter Obi criticizes Tinubu and demands release of detained supporter
Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has demanded the immediate release of Rilwan Olawale, a political mobilizer allegedly arrested by Department of State Services (DSS) operatives at his Lagos residence. Obi condemned the incident as part of a broader pattern of harassment and intimidation against his supporters.
During the inauguration of the NDC national campaign council in Kaduna, Obi also launched a series of political attacks against President Bola Tinubu. He challenged the administration to account for billions of naira in borrowed funds and accused Tinubu of failing to address rising poverty and economic instability. Obi asserted that his administration would prioritize competence, accountability, and the prevention of corruption and kidnapping.
In response to the 2027 election cycle, Vice President Kashim Shettima also criticized Obi, stating that the former Anambra State governor lacks the capacity to manage the national economy and offers little beyond statistics.
