Peter Obi Marks 65th Birthday with Hospital Donation and Political Outreach
On July 19, 2026 former Anambra governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi turned 65. To mark the occasion he donated ₦10 million to St Raphael Hospital in Umueri, Anambra State and urged Nigerians to replace lavish celebrations with reflection, gratitude and service to humanity.
Obi also used the day for political outreach. He visited supporter Isaac Fayose in Abuja after Fayose faced criticism for meeting Seyi Tinubu, reaffirming his backing and urging open criticism. Kwankwaso, his running‑mate, praised Obi’s integrity, while the NDC released statements calling him a beacon of hope and courage. Obi explained his choice of Kwankwaso as running mate, emphasizing shared goals for education‑driven poverty reduction.
He highlighted education and health as the nation’s most critical economic sectors, linking his hospital donation to that agenda. In interviews he stressed the importance of a fair electoral process and encouraged youth to demand a better future. The celebrations were echoed by party officials, local representatives, and institutions such as Dominican University, which lauded his lifelong commitment to education.
