Peter Thiel criticizes Trump administration over Iran war

Billionaire technology investor and major Republican donor Peter Thiel has expressed skepticism regarding the United States' war with Iran. In remarks captured during a private lecture in Nashville on October 12, Thiel stated, “I think we should not have done it,” and noted that “there were a lot of mistakes that were made.”

Thiel suggested that the conflict might expose weaknesses in American influence, remarking, “Maybe we don’t have the hard power. Maybe we’re going to lose the soft power war.” He also voiced strong opposition to neoconservative ideology and military interventions in the Middle East.

Despite these criticisms, Thiel maintained his support for President Donald Trump and expressed a desire to protect him. However, he warned that the war could lead to legal complications for the administration, specifically citing the threat of arrest warrants from the International Criminal Court (ICC). Thiel characterized the potential for ICC prosecution as a “sword of Damocles” hanging over the administration.
