Peter Thiel criticizes Vatican AI regulation proposals

Investor and Palantir co-founder Peter Thiel has criticized the Vatican’s recent stance on artificial intelligence. During an interview in Berlin, Thiel described the Pope as a “useful idiot for the Chinese Communist Party” regarding the proposed AI regulations.

Thiel argued that the Vatican’s call for global AI regulation would not hinder China’s ambitions but would instead create burdensome obstacles for the United States and its allies. He suggested that such regulatory frameworks primarily serve to stifle innovation in Western nations.

Thiel, a prominent figure in Silicon Valley and founder of Founders Fund, has a history of opposing restrictions on technological advancement. His investment portfolio includes major AI-related companies such as OpenAI, Palantir, and Scale AI.
