Peter Thiel invests $76 million in Argentine oil firm Vista Energy

Silicon Valley investor Peter Thiel has made a significant move into the energy sector through his fund, Thiel Macro LLC. According to a Form 13F filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the fund acquired approximately 1,189,792 American Depositary Shares (ADS) of Vista Energy, an Argentine oil producer operating in the Vaca Muerta formation.

The investment, valued at approximately $76 million as of the end of the second quarter of 2026, represents about 18% of Thiel Macro’s reported $418.7 million portfolio. This position is the second largest in the fund, surpassed only by Amazon.

This shift highlights a strategic pivot toward energy and electricity generation. In addition to Vista Energy, the portfolio includes holdings in companies such as Vistra, American Electric Power, and DTE Energy. The move suggests a growing interest in the energy resources required to power future artificial intelligence infrastructure.
