Peter Vandenbempt discusses professional partnership and commentary techniques

Belgian football commentator Peter Vandenbempt has discussed his long-standing professional partnership and personal friendship with former player Gert Verheyen. The duo has worked together for approximately 15 years across various platforms, most notably covering the Champions League for Proximus.

Vandenbempt praised Verheyen as “the best analyst in the country” and noted that while their relationship began purely professionally, it has since evolved into a close friendship.

In addition to his partnership with Verheyen, Vandenbempt shared his preparation methods for live broadcasting. To avoid mistakes when commentating on teams he is less familiar with, such as Cercle Brugge, he spends roughly 15 minutes before a match memorizing player jersey numbers to ensure he can correctly identify players during fast-paced gameplay.
