Peterborough United advances to Carabao Cup fourth round via penalty shootout

Peterborough United advanced to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup for the first time since 2009 following a dramatic 7-6 penalty shootout victory over Barnsley. The match, held at Weston Homes Stadium, ended in a 3-3 draw after regulation time.

Barnsley took an early lead in the first minute through a header by captain Cameron McGeehan. Peterborough responded in the 19th minute when Harry Leonard scored from a loose ball following a save by Kieran Flavell. Danny Ormerod then put the hosts ahead 2-1 with a header from a Harley Mills free-kick.

Barnsley's Reyes Cleary equalized before halftime and later scored his second goal in the 74th minute to give the visitors a 3-2 lead. However, Ormerod secured a header in the 88th minute to force the game into penalties. After 12 successful kicks, Peterborough goalkeeper Alex Bass saved a shot from Luke Alker, allowing Harrison Jones to score the decisive penalty.
