Peterson Pierre-Louis installed as president of Haiti's CEP
Peterson Pierre-Louis has been officially installed as the president of Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) in Pétion-Ville. The transition occurred on September 24, 2026, during a ceremony attended by state representatives, the diplomatic corps, political parties, and civil society members.
Pierre-Louis, formerly the institution’s secretary general, succeeds Jacques Desrosiers, who led the council since October 2025. Desrosiers will remain an electoral counselor and continue to participate in the council’s work. The newly reorganized executive bureau includes Jaccéus Joseph as vice-president, Nemrod Sanon as secretary general, and Schnaïda Adély as treasurer.
In his inaugural address, Pierre-Louis emphasized responsibility, dialogue, and the professionalization of the electoral administration. He called for collective participation from political parties, the media, and international partners to ensure institutional credibility. He also indicated plans to evaluate the administration’s functioning and current contracts to address existing weaknesses.
