Peterson Pierre-Louis named president of Haiti's Provisional Electoral Council

The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) of Haiti has undergone a leadership reshuffle as preparations for upcoming elections continue. Peterson Pierre-Louis, a representative of the reformed religious sector and former secretary general, has been appointed as the new president of the CEP.

He replaces Jacques Desrosiers, who had led the institution since October 2025. This marks the third change in presidency since the current council was established. The decision was reached following meetings between the nine electoral counselors on September 8, 2026.

The new executive bureau includes Jaccéus Joseph as vice-president, Nemrod Sanon as secretary general, and Schnaïda Adély as treasurer. This restructuring occurs during a sensitive political period as the country approaches major electoral deadlines and debates regarding the independence of the CEP persist.
