Pete’s Dream Cancer Respite Center to Open in Pennsylvania by 2027

A $25 million, 34,000‑square‑foot cancer respite center called Pete’s Dream is under construction on 32 acres adjacent to the Woodloch Resort in Lackawaxen Township, Pennsylvania. Scheduled to open in 2027, it will be the nation’s first dedicated onsite facility for adult cancer patients, their caregivers, and children.

Founded by Marci Schankweiler, CEO of the For Pete’s Sake Cancer Respite Foundation, the center honors her late husband Pete, whose experience with cancer highlighted the need for family‑focused support. The program will address emotional, financial and caregiving burdens through services that target family, spiritual, psychosocial, mental and physical health, giving families a place to “rest, reconnect, refresh and heal.”
