Petkim begins FEED studies for petrochemical capacity expansion
Petkim has officially commenced Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) studies as part of its long-term Master Plan project to expand petrochemical production capacities. The company has signed several licensing and engineering contracts with global technology firms to facilitate this expansion.
Key objectives of the Master Plan include increasing annual ethylene capacity from 558,000 tons to 1.2 million tons, and raising polypropylene capacity from 145,000 tons to 550,000 tons. These upgrades aim to more than double the company’s total polymer production.
To support these efforts, $70 million has been allocated for the FEED studies, which are expected to be completed by the end of 2027. These studies will serve as the basis for potential final investment decisions. The project involves collaborations with major industry players, including a FEED contract with Technip Energies for Mixed Feed Steam Cracker (MFSC) technology, a licensing agreement with Univation Technologies, LLC for polyethylene units, and a licensing and engineering agreement with Lummus Novolen Technology GmbH for polypropylene units.
