Petřín funicular reopens in Prague after reconstruction
The Petřín funicular in Prague has resumed operations following a nearly two-year reconstruction period. The project included a complete overhaul of the track, technology, and equipment, introducing a fourth generation of new carriages.
As part of the safety and maintenance upgrades, MEA installed approximately 509 meters of composite service and evacuation stairs along the track. These stairs are constructed from glass fiber and isophthalic resin, offering high mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, and low weight. The composite material was selected for its ability to be easily adapted to the changing geometry and curves of the funicular route without the need for welding.
To commemorate the history of the line, which dates back to 1891, a new book titled ‘Lanovka na Petřín & Dějiny pražských lanových drah’ has been released. Co-authored by journalist and writer Dan Hrubý, the book maps the history of the funicular through four generations of service.
