The Government of Yucatán has commenced construction of a new Municipal Market in Peto to replace a 60-year-old structure that posed safety risks. The project aims to provide modern, accessible facilities for local merchants and consumers, benefiting the municipality's 25,264 residents.

The total investment for the project is 50 million pesos. This funding is a joint effort, with 35 million pesos provided by the State Government and 15 million pesos contributed by the Peto City Council. The new facility will cover an intervention area of 2,750 square meters.

Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena stated that the market serves as the economic and social heart of the municipality. The project's design will adhere to specific criteria to respect its proximity to the historic Nuestra Señora de la Asunción church. The initial phase of construction includes the demolition of the existing building, debris removal, foundation work, and the installation of a metal structure.
