Petr Čech reflects on 20th anniversary of life-threatening head injury

Former professional goalkeeper Petr Čech has reflected on the 20th anniversary of the life-threatening head injury he sustained during a Premier League match between Reading and Chelsea on October 14, 2006.

During the match, Čech was struck in the head by the knee of Reading midfielder Stephen Hunt. The impact fractured Čech's skull, with bone fragments coming dangerously close to his brain. Reports indicate there was a significant delay in medical response, with an ambulance being called approximately 35 minutes after the incident occurred.

Čech, who famously wore a protective helmet for the remainder of his career, expressed gratitude for his survival and the opportunity to continue his life and career. He noted that the incident served as a profound reminder of how quickly life can change and emphasized the importance of living each day with purpose.
