Motorist Party refuses to relinquish Ministry of the Environment

Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Motorist Party leader Petr Macinka has declared that his party has no intention of relinquishing control of the Ministry of the Environment. This response follows social media comments from Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, who reported receiving approximately 2,000 emails from citizens requesting that the ministry be removed from the Motorist Party's jurisdiction.

Macinka characterized the influx of messages as a coordinated campaign by environmental non-governmental organizations and activists, whom he labeled as a ‘green mafia’ and ‘aggressive green fundamentalists.’ He suggested these groups are reacting to the loss of taxpayer-funded subsidies.

While Babiš noted the volume of public feedback regarding the ministry, Macinka maintained that any change to the current ministerial distribution would require a significant renegotiation of the coalition agreement, for which he sees no current indications. The Ministry of the Environment is currently led by Igor Červený of the Motorist Party.
