Petr Moravec to lead KRNAP without changing conservation goals

Petr Moravec, the newly appointed director of the Krkonoše National Park Administration (KRNAP), has stated that he does not intend to alter the long-term nature conservation goals established for 2023–2038.

Moravec addressed potential personnel changes resulting from budget cuts previously announced by the Ministry of the Environment. He noted that negotiations regarding possible layoffs are ongoing and a decision is expected by the end of the year.

His stated priorities include nature protection, managing visitor numbers, and regional partnerships. Moravec expressed opposition to introducing entry fees for the park or specific high-traffic areas. He also emphasized the need for ecosystem resilience, focusing on forest care, water management, and climate change adaptation, while seeking to improve the economic valuation of timber through better sorting and commercial processes.
