Petr Pavel and First Lady host environmental debate in Lány

President Petr Pavel and First Lady Eva Pavlová have engaged in activities focused on public engagement and environmental issues. In Lány, the couple hosted a debate with scientists, farmers, business representatives, and non-profit organizations to discuss environmental challenges. A primary focus of the discussion was the current water shortage and drought in the Czech Republic, which meteorologists describe as the worst in 65 years.

The debate comes as the government considers legislation regarding twenty planned water reservoirs to combat the drought. However, environmentalists and farmers have urged the government to prioritize investments in wetland restoration and the revitalization of watercourses instead of new dam construction.

Separately, President Pavel and his wife also made a private visit to Telč, where they greeted attendees of the 44th annual Prázdniny v Telči festival.
