Petralia Sottana hosts Fifth Week of Legality to protest violence

The youth of the Alte Madonie region will host the ‘Fifth Week of Legality’ in Petralia Sottana on September 7 and 8. Organized by the ‘Maria Ss. Assunta’ parish and the ‘San Carlo Acutis’ Oratory, the event is themed ‘Justice and Peace will meet, for a free Sicily!’

The initiative aims to protest against the violence of Kalashnikov gunfire in Palermo neighborhoods and the devastating wildfires that have impacted Sicilian territory. The program includes a procession to the City Hall, where local youth and ‘mini-administrations’ will meet several notable figures.

Guests include Gabriele Galal, recipient of the ‘Alfiere della Repubblica’ award for his Red Cross volunteer work; Fabrizio Ferrandelli, a Palermo councilor fighting housing racket threats; and Father Giovanni Giannalia, a priest from the Zen district who has faced gunfire at his church.
