Toledo Cathedral to host first Jubilee Year following papal announcement
The Toledo Cathedral will celebrate its first-ever Jubilee Year, following a papal bull issued by Pope Leo XIV. The proclamation is scheduled for August 15 during the festivities of the Virgin of the Sagrario.
The Jubilee Year, which marks the 800th anniversary of the cathedral, is set to begin on October 25 and will conclude on October 25, 2027. The announcement will be presided over by the Archbishop of Toledo, Francisco Cerro Chaves, and will include civil and military authorities.
In San Román, religious and cultural festivities for the Cristo Negro have been announced. To ensure the conservation of the original image, it will no longer participate in processions outside the sanctuary after its final public appearance on August 15. Instead, a pilgrim image known as ‘el hermano’ will lead external activities, including the Paseo por Mar on September 6.
