Petrich mass brawl results in 13-day detention for participants
Participants in a mass brawl in Petrich, Bulgaria, have been issued administrative penalties of 13-day detention in Ministry of Interior structural units. The Sofia Appellate Prosecutor's Office announced the decision following an incident on October 23.
Police responded to a 112 emergency call and discovered groups of people throwing bricks, stones, and bottles, while also using pyrotechnics. Some objects were reportedly thrown at law enforcement officers. The conflict, which originated from long-standing disputes between members of three different families, resulted in injuries to a man, who sustained a head wound, and a woman, who suffered limb injuries from a heavy object.
Following the incident, authorities used operational search activities and video surveillance to identify and initially detain the participants for 24 hours. The actions have been classified as petty hooliganism, as they disrupted public order and posed a threat to the life and health of local residents. The Blagoevgrad District Prosecutor's Office and the Petrich Territorial Department are handling the case.
