Petro Koçi warns of dangerous precedent following attack on Socialist Party headquarters

Former high-ranking Socialist official Petro Koçi has commented on the attack against the headquarters of the Socialist Party (PS) in Albania. Koçi described the event as a strike against the symbolism of the ruling political force and warned that if power is seized through violence, it could set a dangerous and unconstitutional precedent for future instability.

Koçi highlighted several systemic issues contributing to the current crisis, including high levels of perceived corruption and a lack of political will to prosecute those involved. He also criticized the concentration of power and noted that internal democracy within the Socialist Party has reached ‘zero levels.’

Furthermore, Koçi addressed the constitutional structure of Albania, suggesting that the shift from a parliamentary to a prime ministerial republic has weakened parliamentary oversight of the government. He noted that these issues, combined with perceived political arrogance, have fueled public unrest.
