Petrobras and Ecopetrol complete $1B gas exploration in Colombia

Petrobras and Ecopetrol have completed a major deepwater exploratory campaign in the Colombian Caribbean. The two-and-a-half-year operation involved drilling five exploratory wells to advance knowledge of the region's gas potential.

The project represented an investment of approximately USD $1 billion and was conducted without operational accidents or incidents. Petrobras served as the operator with a 44.4 percent stake, while Ecopetrol held a 55.6 percent interest under contract with Colombia's National Hydrocarbons Agency.

The large-scale logistical effort included over 1,000 helicopter flights transporting more than 16,000 passengers, the maritime transport of 45 million liters of fuel, and the movement of over 147,600 tons of cargo.
