Petrobras FPSO Alexandre de Gusmão reaches peak production in Mero field

The Alexandre de Gusmão FPSO, operated by Petrobras in the Mero field within the Santos Basin pre-salt layer, has reached its maximum production capacity of 180,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd).

Located approximately 180 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro in ultra-deep waters (2,100 meters), the Mero field is Brazil’s third-largest oil producer, following the Búzios and Tupi fields. The Alexandre de Gusmão unit, chartered from SBM Offshore, is designed to connect to 12 wells, including six producers and six injectors.

Petrobras executives noted that reaching this milestone confirms the company’s technical strategies and operational efficiency. The Mero field also utilizes advanced technologies, such as the Permanent Reservoir Monitoring (PRM) seismic project and the HISEP® subsea separation system, which allows for the reinjection of CO2-rich gas directly into the reservoir. The field is operated by a consortium led by Petrobras, including partners such as Shell Brasil, TotalEnergies, CNPC, CNOOC, and Pré-Sal Petróleo SA.
