Petrobras marks 73 years with calls for energy sovereignty
Petrobras is marking its 73rd anniversary, with labor groups and unions emphasizing the company’s role in Brazil’s economic development and energy sovereignty.
In Araucária, Paraná, over one thousand workers gathered at the Presidente Getúlio Vargas Refinery (Repar) to celebrate the milestone while advocating against privatization. Demonstrators, organized by Sindipetro-PR/SC and Sindiquímica-PR, argued that maintaining state control is essential to prevent rising fuel costs and the precariousness of working conditions.
The Federação Única dos Petroleiros (FUP) highlighted the company’s strategic challenges, including the need for an integrated approach to the energy transition and the strengthening of national industry. The FUP noted that Petrobras’s 2026–2030 Business Plan includes projected investments of US$ 109 billion across exploration, refining, gas, fertilizers, and low-carbon businesses, with the potential to support significant employment and tax contributions.
