Tupi field reaches 4 billion barrels of oil equivalent produced

The Tupi field, located in the Santos Basin pre-salt layer, has reached a milestone of 4 billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe) produced since its commercial operations began in 2010. This marks the first time a single asset in Petrobras’ 73-year history has achieved this cumulative volume.

Currently, the field produces approximately 1.096 million barrels of oil equivalent per day using nine floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) platforms. Tupi is the second-largest producer in Brazil, following the Búzios field. The asset is operated by Petrobras in a consortium with Shell, Petrogal Brasil, and Pré-Sal Petróleo (PPSA).

Sylvia Anjos, Petrobras' Exploration and Production Director, stated that the production in Tupi “inaugurated a new era for the global oil industry,” noting the pre-salt layer's unique combination of large reserves and high productivity. According to the company's 2026-2030 Business Plan, the pre-salt region could account for up to 82% of Petrobras' total production by the end of the decade.
