Petroecuador secures 27 sites to protect fuel supply from El Niño rains
Petroecuador has implemented preventive measures at 27 strategic points across Ecuador to safeguard the transport, refining, and storage of fuels against potential flooding and heavy rains associated with the El Niño phenomenon.
The mitigation plan, active since May, targets 14 sectors vulnerable to landslides and 13 areas prone to flooding. Work includes stabilizing slopes, constructing retaining walls, installing gabions and berms, and implementing drainage systems to protect infrastructure from water pressure and soil saturation.
Key sites under intervention include critical sections of the Sistema de Oleoducto Transecuatoriano (SOTE), various polyducts, fuel terminals, pumping stations, and the Esmeraldas and La Libertad refineries. These actions aim to prevent disruptions in the national supply of gasoline, diesel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
