Petrol-İş reports on 595-day strike at Temel Conta factory

The Petrol-İş union has released a comprehensive report detailing a 595-day strike at the Temel Conta factory in İzmir, Turkey. The industrial action, which began on December 10, 2024, and concluded on July 27, 2026, originated from disputes over collective bargaining rights and union authorization.

The report alleges that the employer engaged in strike-breaking tactics to neutralize the constitutional right to strike. These actions included shifting production to other facilities, hiring new workers to replace strikers, and utilizing legal and law enforcement mechanisms to exert pressure on employees.

According to the union, while Ministry of Labour inspectors identified strike-breaking behavior on two occasions and issued administrative fines, judicial requests to halt these practices were rejected. The strike followed a period of renewed unionization efforts that began in September 2023, driven by concerns over wages, working conditions, and occupational safety.
