Petrol-İş Union launches indefinite strike at K-PET

The Petrol-İş Union, affiliated with the Devrimci İşçi Sendikaları Federasyonu (Dev-İş), has initiated an indefinite strike at the Kıbrıs Türk Petrolleri (K-PET) Kalecik filling facilities. The industrial action follows the company's decision to terminate nine employees, a move the union claims was made through an irregular board decision that lacked the required signatures and notification to all members.

Dev-İş President Semih Kolozali stated that the strike will continue until the dismissal decisions are rescinded and job descriptions are properly established. The union highlighted significant personnel shortages at the facility, noting that the current staff of 34 is insufficient to meet operational needs and that the workforce could drop below 23 following upcoming retirements.

During mediation efforts involving the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, K-PET General Manager Şahap Aşıkoğlu reportedly admitted to requesting assistance from security personnel for technical tasks due to staffing gaps. The strike has resulted in the suspension of fuel deliveries to K-PET dealers. Other labor unions, including Ada-Sen and GÜÇ-SEN, have expressed support for the striking workers, calling for dialogue and the protection of employment security.
