Petrol-İş Union opposes transfer of Gaziler-1 oil field from Batman

The Petrol-İş Union has formally opposed efforts to transfer the administrative control of the Gaziler-1 oil field from the TPAO Batman Regional Directorate to the Mardin Dargeçit district. Lokman Akkuş, the Batman branch president of the union, called on TPAO General Manager Cem Erdem to reconsider the decision.

Akkuş argued that the change could negatively impact Batman’s technical expertise, the rights of oil workers, and future employment opportunities for local youth. The union highlighted a TPIC tender that refers to the site as the ‘Batman Regional Gaziler-1 Location,’ questioning the legal basis for the proposed administrative shift.

In addition to retaining the field within the Batman region, the union issued a seven-point demand including job security for workers, oversight of automation practices, and strengthened occupational health and safety measures.
