Petroleum tanker explosion kills at least two in Kenya

A petroleum tanker explosion and subsequent fire along the Eldoret-Webuye road near Paul Boit Secondary School in Uasin Gishu County has resulted in at least two confirmed deaths and multiple injuries.

Reports indicate that the victims were attempting to collect spilling fuel from the tanker after it broke down, just before the explosion occurred. At least 10 individuals were evacuated to various medical facilities, including Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, to receive treatment for severe burns.

The Kenya Red Cross, in collaboration with the Kenya Police Service and local firefighters, responded to the mass casualty incident. While the fire was reportedly contained by early Friday morning, authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the explosion and working to establish a final casualty count.
