Petroleum tanker fire destroys shops in Cross River State

A petroleum tanker overturned following a road accident near the Odukpani Local Government Secretariat in Cross River State on Sunday, October 4, 2026. The resulting fire spread to nearby buildings, destroying several shops and vehicles.

The tanker driver, who was trapped in the flames, was rescued and transported to a hospital for medical treatment. While the fire caused significant damage to property and goods worth millions of Naira, the Cross River State Police Command has not confirmed any fatalities at this time.

Police officers from the Odukpani Division are on-site to secure the area and manage public safety, while the Fire Service has been alerted to contain the blaze. Authorities have advised residents and motorists to avoid the immediate vicinity to allow emergency responders unhindered access.
