Petrolina and Juazeiro mayors to lobby Brasília for new bridge
Mayors Simão Durando of Petrolina and Andrei Gonçalves of Juazeiro have committed to traveling to Brasília in November to advocate for the construction of a new bridge connecting their cities. The leaders plan to meet with the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) to request the acceleration of the project, aiming to ensure the São Francisco Valley is no longer dependent on a single bridge.
In separate local developments, Petrolina Mayor Simão Durando inaugurated the revitalized Nossa Senhora da Conceição Square in the Areia Branca neighborhood. The project, costing over R$ 800,000 through a partnership with Caixa Econômica Federal and the Ministry of Tourism, includes new lighting, playgrounds, and fitness equipment. Additional infrastructure works and square renovations are planned for various rural communities in the municipality.
