Petrolina and Rio Preto municipal clean‑up programs clear 280 abandoned cars and 166 tonnes of waste

The municipality of Petrolina, through its Mobility Authority, identified 280 abandoned vehicles between January and June. Owners were notified; 191 vehicles were removed voluntarily, nine were taken away by officials and 80 remain pending removal. The same operation cited 79 drivers for illegal waste dumping, issuing fines ranging from R$1,500 to R$100,000.

In Rio Preto, a coordinated clean‑up effort involving several city departments and civil defence collected 166.99 tonnes of waste in 100 trips, handling 1,200 m³ of material, 298 tires, furniture, appliances, electronics and other debris. The campaign highlighted the health risks of abandoned items and promoted proper disposal and recycling, with strong community participation.

Both initiatives are part of broader municipal programs aimed at improving urban mobility, public health and environmental quality in the Brazilian cities.
