Petrolina City Hall warns of Cadastro Único impersonation scams

The Petrolina City Hall, through the Secretariat of Social Assistance and Combatting Hunger, has issued an alert regarding fraudulent activities involving the Cadastro Único program. Scammers are reportedly impersonating official team members by wearing black shirts with “Cadastro Único” identification to conduct unauthorized home visits.

These individuals falsely claim that residents are entitled to social benefits and may request procedures such as facial recognition. The City Hall clarified that official visits are conducted by professionals wearing white shirts with the “Petrolina Acolhe” symbol, using official municipal vehicles. Official staff perform interviews only and do not promise or release benefits during visits, nor do they request facial recognition.

Citizens are advised not to provide documents, passwords, banking information, or personal data to unidentified individuals. In the event of a suspicious approach, authorities recommend preserving security footage, noting descriptions of individuals and vehicles, and filing a police report.
