Petrolul Ploiești considers moving matches due to poor pitch conditions

The pitch quality at the Ilie Oană Stadium in Ploiești has sparked significant controversy within the Romanian SuperLiga. Club officials and coaching staff have expressed deep dissatisfaction with the playing surface, which has not been replaced since the arena's inauguration 15 years ago.

Petrolul Ploiești president Claudiu Tudor noted that despite recent regeneration efforts, the grass is showing signs of weakness, including dry patches. The situation was exacerbated by the hosting of the Diversity Cup, where over 25 matches were played on the surface over a single weekend.

Petrolul coach Ricardo Sousa criticized the situation as a “lack of respect” toward the fans, the team, and the city, stating that such conditions would not be tolerated in Portugal. Following a notification from the Professional Football League (LPF) regarding the pitch quality, the club is considering moving its upcoming match against Csikszereda to Târgoviște in Dâmbovița County.
