Petrolul Ploiești rises to fourth in Superliga under Ricardo Sousa

Petrolul Ploiești has emerged as a standout performer in the Romanian Superliga, currently holding fourth place, just four points behind leader Dinamo. Despite facing insolvency during the summer and being forced to overhaul nearly the entire squad, the team has performed strongly under the management of Portuguese coach Ricardo Sousa.

Former defender Daniel Chiriță has expressed high confidence in the squad, specifically highlighting striker Dan Nlundulu. Chiriță, who noted Nlundulu’s experience in Scotland with St. Mirren, predicts the attacker will score at least 10 goals this season. Nlundulu has already recorded three goals in ten matches since joining the club on a free transfer.

Coach Ricardo Sousa, whose professional playing career spanned 15 teams across six countries including stints at FC Porto and Hannover 96, has been credited with revitalizing the club despite limited financial resources and a lack of institutional support.
