Petronà crowns Madonna del Voto and Baby Jesus with new gold crowns
In Petronà, a town in the province of Catanzaro, a religious ceremony was held to crown the Madonna del Rosario, venerated as the Madonna del ‘Voto’, and the Baby Jesus. The event, presided over by Archbishop Alberto Torriani of Crotone-Santa Severina, marked the conclusion of a community project that began in March.
The new crowns were handcrafted by master goldsmith Michele Affidato using silver with 24 kt gold finishes. The intricate designs feature embossed floral motifs and 24 faceted round blue stones. The project was supported by a popular subscription organized by the Legionaries of Mary of Petronà, involving numerous local citizens.
Prior to the ceremony in Petronà, the crowns were taken to the Vatican in May, where they were blessed by Pope Leo XIV in the presence of local clergy. The devotion to the Madonna del Voto dates back to the earthquake of 1832, serving as a long-standing symbol of faith and community identity for the region.
