PETRONAS and JOGMEC sign LNG agreement to bolster Japan energy security

PETRONAS LNG Ltd. (PLL) and the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) have signed a Master Sales and Purchase Agreement (MSPA) to strengthen energy security between Malaysia and Japan.

Announced during the LNG Producer and Consumer Conference 2026, the agreement establishes a cooperative and flexible framework designed to ensure a stable supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Japan during emergencies. The framework aims to safeguard Japan’s electricity and gas supplies while respecting Malaysia’s domestic energy requirements.

The agreement builds upon previous strategic cooperation between the two entities, including a memorandum of cooperation signed in 2025. This partnership reinforces PETRONAS’s role as a long-term supplier to the Japanese market, which it has served for over four decades.
