Petronas LNG and Japan's Hokuriku Electric Sign 10‑Year LNG Supply Deal and Carbon‑Neutral MoU

Petronas LNG Ltd (PLL), a subsidiary of Malaysia's Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), and Japan's Hokuriku Electric Power Co. signed a heads‑of‑agreement (HOA) in Kuala Lumpur on 14 July 2026. The HOA will renew a long‑term LNG supply contract, with PLL expected to deliver up to 0.54 million tonnes per year for a ten‑year period starting in 2028. The agreement was signed by PLL chief executive Rosdi Ab Rahman and Hokuriku Electric president Koji Matsuda.

On the same day the parties also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore strategic cooperation on carbon‑neutral initiatives, including hydrogen, ammonia, renewable energy and carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCS/CCUS). PETRONAS executive vice‑president and CEO of Gas & Maritime Business Datuk Adif Zulkifli highlighted the continued trust between the companies and their joint ambition to build a resilient LNG supply chain and pursue low‑carbon opportunities. Since 2018 PLL has been the sole LNG supplier to Hokuriku Electric’s Toyama‑Shinko Thermal Power Station.
