Petroperú pauses Talara refinery amid abnormal waves and port shutdown

Petroperú announced that the Talara refinery’s process units were shut down on 28 July after the maritime authority temporarily closed the Talara Bay port due to anomalous wave conditions. The shutdown also reflects a restriction on crude‑oil supply linked to the company’s current liquidity situation, which had already halted crude imports on 27 July.

The port is expected to reopen on 31 July, after which imported crude will be unloaded and inventories replenished to enable the restart of refinery units from 5 August. Petroperú says it currently holds sufficient fuel inventories to meet customer demand and will carry out opportunistic maintenance on the sea‑water system, cooling circuit and electrical cabinets during the pause.
