Petros Gaitanos slams Eurovision entry Akyla as a ‘sin’ and ‘degeneration’

Greek singer Petros Gaitanos appeared on the talk show “The 2Night Show” and used the platform to denounce the Eurovision Song Contest and Greece’s 2024 entry, performer Akyla. He said the act – a man with a moustache dressed in a provocative outfit and singing with an umbrella – is “a discount, not evolution” and “not a right, it is sin.” Gaitanos argued that Eurovision should represent the nation rather than showcase what he called “gimmicks” and “excessive ego‑driven theatrics.”

He also criticized the contest’s broader values, describing its current direction as “a sickening situation” that harms artistic integrity. While acknowledging that Eurovision can be entertaining, he insists that true art should be modest and focused on good music, not “anomalies and absurdity.”

During the interview Gaitanos mentioned his personal media habits, stating he rarely watches television and relies on the internet for information, adding that he begins each day with a personal prayer.
