Petrosino declared in state of emergency after tornado causes 10 million euros in damage

The Sicilian Regional Government has declared a state of crisis and emergency for Petrosino following a violent tornado on October 9. The decision, made by the regional council led by President Renato Schifani, follows significant destruction to homes, businesses, public structures, and infrastructure in Petrosino and the southern side of Marsala.

Initial assessments by the municipal administration estimate the damages at approximately 10 million euros. Petrosino Mayor Giacomo Anastasi welcomed the declaration as a “fundamental first step” to support the community but emphasized the urgent need for resources to assist affected families, restore damaged infrastructure, and secure the territory.

Authorities are currently defining the procedures for assessing and quantifying economic losses for private citizens and businesses. The municipality will communicate the specific methods for submitting compensation claims through official channels once the processes are finalized.
