Petrovietnam pushes ahead with Lô B‑Ô Môn power projects and seeks diplomatic support to secure Vietnam’s energy
Petrovietnam chief executive Lê Mạnh Cường said the corporation’s role in national energy security extends beyond commercial activity to a political responsibility, requiring close cooperation with Vietnam’s diplomatic corps. He urged the foreign ministry to expand government‑to‑government ties and long‑term agreements that facilitate new energy projects and diversify import sources.
Cường also chaired a meeting in Cần Thơ to accelerate the Lô B‑Ô Môn power chain, focusing on the Ô Môn III and Ô Môn IV thermal‑power plants. The two projects, valued at about 57.6 trillion VND, are intended to close the upstream‑downstream gap in the gas‑to‑electricity chain. The Ô Môn IV plant has already reached over 28 % of its construction target, and the accelerated schedule aims to boost Petrovietnam’s position as a major electricity producer in Vietnam.
