Severe storms and flooding trigger emergencies across Brazil

In São Paulo, heavy rainfall has caused the Tietê River to rise near the brink of overflowing in the north zone. The intense weather also led to a building collapse in the Penha neighborhood, resulting in at least one confirmed death and several injuries. The Civil Defense has issued alerts for strong winds and potential hail.

In Piracicaba, the Piracicaba River has reached emergency levels, prompting the mobilization of contingency teams to manage flooding risks in urban areas. Meanwhile, cities in the Rio de Janeiro region, including Petrópolis and Teresópolis, remain under alert for moderate to heavy rainfall, lightning, and strong winds due to a passing cold front.
