Petrópolis winter season spurs tourism, retail growth and a 30‑flavor cake festival
On Saturday, July 18, the Feirinha de Itaipava market in Petrópolis will host a "Festival de Fatias" offering more than 30 cake flavors. The event features three local confectioners—Liliana Rodrigues, Marcela Tavares and Ana Rafaela Teles—who will present varieties ranging from classic Red Velvet to inventive pistachio with red fruit and maracujá with crunchy brigadeiro.
The city’s winter weather, with nightly lows near 10 °C and daytime highs around 24 °C, is expected to boost tourism and retail sales. Chamber of Shopkeepers president Claudio Mohammad said, "O inverno sempre foi um importante motor para o comércio de Petrópolis," noting increased demand for cold‑weather clothing and higher visitor spending on hotels, restaurants and local shops.
