Pets at Home launches new pet insurance service
UK retailer Pets at Home is expanding its service ecosystem with the launch of Pets Insurance. The new lifetime cover products are designed to simplify the insurance process for pet owners, addressing research that indicates widespread confusion regarding industry terminology such as co-pay and pre-authorisation.
The insurance service offers three levels of cover—Core, Plus, and Max—allowing owners to select annual veterinary fee limits. For dogs, these limits are set at £4,000, £7,000, or £15,000, while cat owners can choose between £3,000, £5,000, or £10,000. All policies include coverage for accidents, illnesses, and qualifying dental treatment as standard, with no per-condition limits.
Additional benefits include hydrotherapy, behavioural therapy, prescribed diet support, and assistance if a pet goes missing. To streamline the claims process, Pets at Home is introducing an online portal that allows claims to be handled directly with veterinary practices. The service launched exclusively on Compare the Market on August 19 and will be available via the Pets at Home website and app starting in September. The policies do not cover pre-existing conditions or routine care like vaccinations and grooming.
